Abstract

The research was performed by collecting extracted teeth of patients visiting the dental clinics located in western Kyung-Nam province in the period ranging from December of 2001 to March 25th of 2002 and then analyzing calculus deposition of teeth among them. The analyzed subjects were 422 maxillary extraction and 426 mandible extraction and 186 incisors and 662 molars.
The subject teeth were divided by crown and root of the teeth and then the condition of calculus deposition was confirmed by classifying them with labial(buccal), lingual, mesial and distal surface, respectively. The calculus deposited condition about each tooth region was investigated by dividing each tooth phase into three in the vertical and horizontal direction according to the division method of tooth. And then the it was marked using coloring pens at the pre-ready material about whether the calculus deposition was found.
The research results were statistically analyzed using SPSS 10.0 for Windows.
First, regarding the distribution by tooth region, each calculus area was coated with the number of one. After that, the degree of distribution was obtained by summng the number of each region and also the differences of the distribution was found through the crossing analysis. The significant difference of all the analysis was shown with a=.05.
The calculus distribution by the root region divided into three was shown as the highest values at lingual surface of maxillary right central-incisors and mesial and distal surface of mandible left central-incisors and right lateral-incisors for cervical third areas, at distal surface of maxillary left central-incisors and distal surface of mandible right first premolars for middle third areas, and at mesial surface of maxillary left first molars and mesial surface of mandible right first premolars for apical third areas.
The calculus distribution by the crown region divided into three in the horizontal direction was shown as the highest values at lingual surface of maxillary left canines and at lingual, mesial, buccal surface of mandible left canine, right lateral-incisors, right canine and right second molars for cervical third areas, at lingual surface of maxillary right central-incisors and mesial surface of mandible left lateral-incisors for middle third areas, and at lingual surface and mesial surface of maxillary right central-incisors and lingual surface of mandible left lateral-incisors for occlusal third areas.
The calculus distribution by the root region divided into three in the vertical direction was shown as the highest values at middle third areas of maxillary left first molars and at middle third areas and mesial third areas of mandible left lateral-incisors and right second molars for labial(buccal) surface, and at mesial third areas of maxillary left lateral-incisors and at all the regions including mesial, middle, distal surface of madible right lateral-incisors for lingual surface.
For mesial surface, the highest values were shown at middle third areas of maxillary right lateral-incisors and at middle third areas of mandible left lateral-incisors.
For distal surface, the highest values were shown at middle third areas of maxillary left lateral-incisors and at middle third areas of mandible right lateral-incisors.
For labial(buccal) surface, the calculus distribution by the crown region divided in to three in the vertical direction was shown as the highest values at distal third areas of maxillary left first molars and at middle third areas of mandible right second molars. For lingual surface, the highest values were found at mesial third areas of maxillary left first molars and at all the regions including mesial, middle, distal surface of mandible left canines. For mesial surface , the highest values were found at middle third areas of maxillary left first molars and at labial third areas of mandible right canines. Lastly, for distal surface, the highest values were shown at labial third areas of maxillary of left first molars and at middle third areas of mandible right second premolars.
